THE “IN CROWD”.
It’s location, location, location, right? Being right in town within walking distance to historic Taos Plaza and everything Taos has to offer will always be “in” and is a find in our market. The fact that there’s a 10ac. park next door is also a boon.
This welcoming 2BR/2BA, 1,435 sq. ft. home in Valverde Commons, the premier Cohousing/Intentional Community in Northern New Mexico could be your answer to life after the rat race, the mundane, and the ho hum. The home is basically new (2017) and has a bright, light great room with gas fireplace, fully equipped kitchen w/pantry, an open dining area plus all the Southwest touches like vigas, nichos, and tile floors. It even has a sleeping nook. The master bedroom has a nice walk-in and bath with walk-in shower.
This was a custom home for an artist so the second bedroom is equipped for a studio complete with large closet and sink but of course could still be a spacious guestroom. An oversized mechanical room has storage. A deck off the dining area is the place for sunsets and the patio is a place to enjoy the summer breeze. Fido will appreciate the fenced yard.
What are Cohousing/Intentional Communities? What is Valverde Commons? Almost 20 years ago a vibrant collection of Taos locals wanted a place near town where they could enjoy walking or biking to shops, restaurants, the library, farmer’s market, concerts and openings as well as being in a pastoral setting and attached to the land. One person has to be 55 – like a retirement community but few here are “retiring”. They wanted a beautiful space with views of the mountains for gatherings, concerts, dinners, and activities. They wanted an open space to feel safe while walking the dog or just walking to count their steps for a healthy heart. They also wanted a woodworking shop, gardening spaces and studio spaces. They wanted all this while still making a small footprint on Mother Earth. Thus, Valverde Commons was born.
Now with over 26 existing homes of the 28 max, this baby is thriving. The club house is beautiful, there’s a 10 ac. Sunset Park adjoining the compound for those walks (and sunsets), and there’s a big barn with a workshop and a place for gardening equipment yet nothing about Valverde Commons is common. Each house is unique as are all the residents. One can participate as much or as little as you like. However, beware. With this group you may find yourself in a Taos ski group, a biking group, a birding group, an archeology group, a readers group, the opera group and then there are writer, painter, and potter groups. Surely there must be a wine group. Didn’t see what you like? You can start your own group. Valverde Commons is a place to be who you are with accepting and helpful neighbors only asking that you be a good neighbor too. Participation is not mandatory. Cohousing is a lifestyle.
